Can musicals change our worldview?

Can musicals change our worldview?

“Who lives, who dies, who tells our story?” ask the cast and chorus of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s megamusical, Hamilton (2015). Reimagining America's founding fathers as people of colour, Hamilton challenges "traditional" visions of American history. Here, in the UK, the recent hit musical Six reclaims the stories of the women who married Henry VIII as an X-Factor style pop concert. In this live lecture, I will question whether contemporary musicals are really changing how we understand the past and who is allowed to write and tell our stories.
