Nottingham element: Little John

Not just Robin Hood's right hand man...

Housed within the dome of Nottingham Council House is the affectionately-nicknamed ‘Little John’ hour bell – for many years the deepest toned clock bell in the United Kingdom, weighing over 10 tonnes – whose strike can be heard for a distance of seven miles.

Of course Little John also appears in the earliest recorded Robin Hood ballads and stories, and is shown to be intelligent and highly capable.
