Samarium

Sleaford Mods are an English electronic punk music duo formed in 2007. The band features vocalist Jason Williamson and, since 2012, musician Andrew Fearn.

Jason was born and grew up in Grantham. He met Andrew in 2009 after hearing him DJ at a small Nottingham club called the Chameleon.

A recent documentary on Sky Arts about the band provided a frank chronicle of their rise.

Samarium is a yellowish silver-coloured metal. It is the hardest and the most brittle of the rare earth elements.

Named after Colonel Samarski, a mine official from Russia, it was the first element to be named in honour of a person.

Ingesting the right dose of samarium chloride will allow it to bind with alcohol and prevent you from getting intoxicated. But don’t try this!
