Nottingham element: This is England
This is England is the cult 2006 feature film, written and directed by Nottingham’s Shane Meadows.
Set in 1983, and with much of the film shot in residential areas of Nottingham, the story centres on young skinheads in 1983 and illustrates how their subculture became adopted by the far-right, which led to divisions within the skinhead scene.
This is England won the Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film at the 2008 BAFTAs.
The film produced three spin-off TV mini-series – This Is England ’86, This is England ’88, and This Is England ’90 – written by Shane Meadows and Jack Thorne.
Scientific element: Tennessine
A member of the halogen group, tennessine is a radioactive, artificially produced element about which little is known.
The element was relatively newly discovered in 2010. Scientists made it in a laboratory by taking calcium ions and shooting them at the element, berkelium.
Since only a few atoms of tennessine have ever been made, it has no practical uses outside of scientific study.
