Leadership fellowship for Cameron Alexander

EPSRC Leadership Fellowship

Professor Cameron Alexander has been awarded a 5 year Leadership Fellowship by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (Grant EP/H005625/1 “Bar-Coded Biomaterials - Designing Self-Authenticating Medicines” £1,020,960).

The work will establish a team of 2 post-doctoral researchers and 2 PhD students to develop new materials that contain molecular 'bar-codes', enabling them to self-assemble to encapsulate drug compounds, and which can be programmed to release the drugs at target sites in the body. The 'bar-codes' additionally offer the possibility for personalising the drug release profile to specific diseases or patients, and to enable tracing of the drug carriers after administration. The project team will collaborate closely with groups led by Professors Sue Watson in Pre-Clinical Oncology, Paolo Caliceti in Padova, Italy and Dr Chris Hayes in Chemistry.
