The inaugural conference of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences — UK-PharmSci 2010, The Science of Medicines — took place at The University of Nottingham from Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 September.
The conference took place at the East Midlands Conference Centre on University Park, and welcomed some of the world’s foremost experts in the pharmaceutical sciences. It aimed to showcase the best pharmaceutical talent, alongside new research and technologies.
‘The Science of Medicines’ was chaired by Kevin Shakesheff, Head of the School of Pharmacy at The University of Nottingham and Professor of Advanced Drug Delivery and Tissue Engineering.
Subjects covered during the three-day conference ranged from materials science and delivery technologies to anti-infectives and biopharmaceutics. Speakers at the event included Professor Ravi Kumar of the University of Strathclyde, who delivered the RPSGB Science Award Lecture, ‘What makes medicine’, and Professor Graham Buckton from the University of London. Speakers ranged from established academics to young science researchers, and the programme aimed to encourage collaboration in this multi-disciplinary field.
Professor Shakesheff said: “We’re delighted to welcome the UK’s premier pharmaceutical sciences conference to the University. Here at Nottingham we’re recognised as being leaders in the field, so it’s appropriate that the first such event should take place on our campus.”
