Researchers from the Division of Social Research in Medicines and Health have been awarded £25k from the National Institute for Health Research to explore potential new ways to support community pharmacies to make their working practices safer. Dr Matthew Boyd, project lead, said “We know from previous work we have done within the School and with our collaborators from other institutions such as UCL and LSE, that community pharmacies can be very busy and potentially error provoking places. We hope that using a qualitative research driven approach we can assist pharmacies review work practices using an evidence based approach in a similar way to that used in other industries such as aviation. The money received from the NIHR Research Capability Funding will allow us to explore and discuss potential methodologies with community pharmacy partners prior to applying for a larger scale grant in 2016.”
