Postgraduate Student Winners of National Biotechnology YES Business Competition make splash in Icelandic news
After qualifying from regional heats to reach the finals, our team of postgraduates Claire Lewis, Rosa Catania, Monica Mistry, Georgina Marsh and Gudrun Fridgeirsdottir pitched their company idea to the panel of expert judges, and weathered tough questioning to take first place. This is the first time a team from Nottingham University has won this prestigious award, now in its 20th year. Their idea was a new way of detecting and treating head lice infections.
This news has travelled far and has now appeared in the most respected Icelandic newspaper, Morgunblaðið (The Morning Paper) where the work of team and in particular Icelandic student Gudrun Fridgeirsdottir is celebrated.
As winners of this competition the team received £2,500; an invitation to the BIA Gala Dinner; a delegate pass to PraxisUnico's 2016 Conference held in Stratford-upon-Avon; and an opportunity to attend the 2016 Rice Business Plan Competition in Houston, Texas.
