Science in the Park, 2018

The British Society for Science  organised and hosted the annual very popular Science in the Park event in Wollaton Park. We are still awaiting final visitor numbers for 2018, but last year over 7,000 people attended the event. For more information on the event and for also seeing a film about our activities, please find the BSA’s Facebook page.

This is the third consecutive year during which students from the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines have offered activities. This year, they were supported by two undergraduate students, Ella Marchant and Aleksandar Sokerov, from the School of Pharmacy.

The students were offered activities on drug delivery and hand cream (ointment) making. Before the event, our students had to weigh out each of the ingredients of the ointment approximately 300 times to ensure that many children could produce their own. Find the video here.

Maria Marlow commented that “I’ve really enjoyed meeting the children, they were very, very enthusiastic”.

A lot of work was done prior to the event: The CDT would especially like to thank Akmal Bin Sabri, Kaouthar Bouzinab and Gordon Bruce for organising pre-event ordering and preparations. We would also like to thank Colin Rowe, Amy Nairn, Nick Turton and Colin Wills for their help with health and safety documents, ordering and label printing. We could not have done this without you!!!

A big thank you to our academics Pavel Gershkovich and Maria Marlow for their help during the event.
