Bio: Dr Richard Field's research models the effects of climate change on biodiversity in various ecosystems around the world, as well as researchhing nature positive solutions. He leads a number of large projects around biodiversity finance, and is on the World Economic Forum's Biodiversity Credits Working Group.

Richard's current NERC-ESRC project and NERC Knowledge Exchange Fellowship use his biodiversity expertise to design methodology for measuring biodiversity that is fit for the purpose of biodiversity finance. He consults on applications for biodiversity credit projects, to judge the quality of their plans for conserving biodiversity and quantifying the biodiversity outcomes of that conservation. This is in the context of recent regulatory and marketplace changes that have created a massive market for private investment in biodiversity (potentially billions per year), which is being held back by lack of appropriate biodiversity quantification methods.

SUMMARY: Developing the world's first biodiversity credit standards

Description
This short article summarises a new £1 million project, led by University of Nottingham researchers, on the development of the world's first biodiversity credit standards. This framework will enable businesses and governments to quantify their impacts on the natural world.

SUMMARY: Understanding how to conserve plant diversity

Description
This short article summarises research discovering new patterns of plant diversity. The study produced, for the first time, global maps of local plant biodiversity, based on field surveys around the world, transforming our understanding of how to conserve this vital resource.
