Happy 10th birthday to FOSAC

This year’s Festival of Science and Curiosity (FOSAC) marks the festivals 10th anniversary and has seen many hands-on science activities take place across Nottingham.

Over the last 10 years, FOSAC has collaborated with educators from over 100 schools across Nottinghamshire, distributed 44,000 magazines across the county and delivered over 440 events. These events were a collaboration from their festival network which comprises of over 20 partners who collaborate to bring activities and workshops to the communities of Nottinghamshire.

The Institute for Policy and Engagement contributed to the funding of FOSAC, helping it to continue to make it the successful event it is known for. Some of our University of Nottingham academics were also involved in hosting activities across the city.

Here’s a quick recap of some of the events and activities hosted around the city as well as some images from the event.

On the 10th February FOSAC kicked off with a welcome celebration, celebrating discovery, innovation, and hands-on learning across Nottingham at Nottingham Central Library, including psychology fun fair games and the science of signalling with electricity.

On 19th February, families joined researchers from the University of Nottingham at Arnold Library for The Brain Lab of Wonder exhibition. The Youth & Community Centre hosted Sensing the Brain on the same day, showing how the brain processes sensory information to local families.

On 21st February, Nottingham Cathedral hosted a Science Fun Day which featured family-friendly events including exciting hands-on interactive activities, with University of Nottingham academics in attendance, including Max Wilson from our Institute Academy Programme cohort.
