Description

Why do democracies fall apart and what can be done about it? A conversation with Natasha Lindstaedt (Essex) and Licia Cianetti (Birmingham).

In this seminar, Professor Lindstaedt and Dr Cianetti will discuss the causes of democratic decay in the modern world. Illustrating the integral link between public commitment to democratic norms and the maintenance of healthy democracies, the speakers will discuss the role of various factors in decaying democracies including economic inequality, corruption, a declining belief in political institutions, and populist and authoritarian discourse.
