School of Politics and International Relations

Welcome to New Staff in the School of Politics and International Relations

As we begin the new term, we wanted to introduce three new academics in the School of Politics and International Relations.

Eloise Bertrand

Dr Eloïse Bertrand joins the School as Assistant Professor. Previously, she was a research fellow at the Centre for European and International Studies Research at the University of Portsmouth, and an early-career fellow at the University of Warwick, where she obtained her PhD in 2020.

She was recently awarded an ESRC new investigator grant to conduct research on the intersection of security, democratisation, and elite politics in the Sahel region, involving collaborative research in Burkina Faso, Niger and Nigeria. She has also been working on the role of opposition parties in hybrid regimes, electoral mobilisation strategies, and democracy promotion in Western and Eastern Africa.

She is the co-author of A Dictionary of African Politics (OUP). Her research has been published in leading academic journals such as African Affairs and Democratization, and as policy briefs and reports.
