The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)-funded Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (M4C) is an AHRC-funded collaboration between the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, University of Warwick, Coventry University, De Montfort University, University of Leicester, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham. M4C provides combined research expertise for the professional and personal development of the next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers. For 2025 Midlands4Cities will offer fully funded PhD studentships for eligible students in arts and humanities through an open competition. The School is inviting applications from candidates whose research interests connect with our fields of expertise in depth, in: • political theory, especially projects concerning political ideologies, time, freedom and slavery, and existential risk;• the history of international relations, especially concerning intelligence, economic statecraft, warfare and British foreign and security policy. To be considered for funding, you need to meet the eligibility criteria as detailed within M4C and UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) guidelines. You must also have applied for a place to study on the PhD programme in the School. The deadline for applications for an AHRC-funded M4C studentship for 2025 entry is 13 January 2025 at 12.00 hours (UTC+0). Potential applicants must take note of those of areas of enquiry which are funded by the AHRC; applications to undertake projects in areas which would be funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) will not be successful. For more details, including about how to register for the application writing workshops in November, please visit Midlands4Cities or contact enquiries@midlands4cities.ac.uk. Questions specific to post-graduate studies in the School of Politics and International Relations can be addressed to Dr Ben Holland (Benjamin.Holland@nottingham.ac.uk).
