Professor Anna La Chimia will be holding a workshop in Rome on Food Procurement for Schools with her colleague, Silvia Lucciarini from La Sapienza of Rome on Friday 25 November 2022.
The workshop is part of a BA-Leverhulme-funded project to investigate Sustainable Food Procurement for Schools: in Italy, France, and the UK. The workshop has also benefitted from the technical assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organization.
Gaps in the implementation of school meal programs risk exacerbating territorial inequalities jeopardizing children’s right to healthy and nutritious food. This interdisciplinary workshop aims at promoting exchanges among policymakers, practitioners, artists, and researchers on options, challenges, research, and policy gaps related to establishing sustainable public food procurement for schools. Speakers from France, the UK, Italy, Greece, Denmark, and the FAO will talk about the social and economic benefits of establishing school meal programs and the problems that still exist in some areas of the same country.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Mr. Michael Fakhri, will close the workshop, addressing all participants with his final remarks.
