The UK’s Procurement Bill, introduced in May 2022, provide for a radical overhaul of the UK’s legal rules on public procurement. Professor Sue Arrowsmith KC was closely involved in the development of the new legislation, including as a key member of the Cabinet Office’s Advisory Panel for the project.
On 16 November 2022 she presented a three-hour webinar for Achilles Information Ltd to an audience of around 100 stakeholders including government bodies, lawyers and public sector suppliers. The webinar covered the latest developments with the Bill and some key practical issues. These included the proposed new system for accessing public contract information so that government and stakeholders alike can analyse performance and sport integrity problems, and the new systems for supplier registration and debarment, that will allow the government to exclude from public contracts suppliers involved in corruption, modern slavery and environmental breaches. She was joined for the webinar by Rebecca Rees, a partner in Trowers and Hamlins LLP, who focused on the social value aspects of procurement under the Bill.
