More brain activity is not always better when it comes to memory and attention

A new paper by Tobias Bast, Stephanie McGarrity and Marie Pezze from the School of Psychology highlights recent evidence, which suggests that too much uncontrolled activity in specific brain areas may contribute to the cognitive impairments characterizing a range of brain disorders, including schizophrenia and age-related cognitive decline.

The review is part of a special issue concerned with the Pharmacology of Cognition in the British Journal of Pharmacology, which is co-edited by Paula Moran, also from the School of Psychology.
