What is Formula student?
Formula Student (or FSAE, as called in America) is the world's most established educational engineering competition, inspiring students through motorsports. Student teams gain hands-on experience in everything from design and manufacture, to business development and management.
The UK edition of Formula Student is run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. It takes place every year at Silverstone Circuit. Teams build single seat racing cars, powered by petrol engines or electric motors. They compete on track to test their speed, handling and endurance during the four-day event.
What makes us stand out?
Our philosophy is to build an environmentally friendly, efficient and agile electric racing car - what sets us apart from other UK-based teams is that we focus primarily on in-house development and testing of technology by our undergraduate and postgraduate students. We are currently competing with a robust two-wheel drive powertrain, with student-developed hub motor/gearbox and Lithium-Ion battery pack. In the future, we aim to go back to our original goal of developing UK's first reliable all-wheel drive electric car.
