Simon’s academic background is in applied environmental risk management, particularly within the space between technical risk assessment, public perception, risk communication and decision-making. For the past two decades he has been working at universities helping to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with business, government and other organisations. This activity has spanned myriad environmental topics, particularly waste management, low carbon technologies, the marine and maritime sector and now, at Nottingham, industrial biotechnology and sustainable chemistry.
Within the Green Chemicals Beacon Simon’s work focuses on:
- The provision of links to existing and new corporate partners to support the development of research and training activities;
- Connections into the value chains of corporate partners and other larger companies;
- Strategic insight into the industrial and government research, development and innovation landscape in the green chemicals space;
- Inter-Beacon links, in particular the Future Food, Propulsion Futures and Rights Lab.
