Despite really strong competition from two other finalists who had products with proven track records, NuVision, a spin-out company of the University founded by Dr Andrew Hopkinson and Prof Harminder Dua from the Division of Clinical Neuroscience, has won the Medilink Business Awards under the Innovation category on 10 June 2015.
Separately, the scientists from the Academic Ophthalmology research group have also recently been awarded an Innovate UK Biomedical Catalyst Fund grant of £150,000 to develop Omnigen, a novel stem cell treatment for acute ocular surface trauma. This is in addition to the Innovate UK SMART award received through NuVision, which would also support future and currently active partnership grants between the academic group and NuVision.
