The Biomaterials Discovery Programme Grant held their seminar on Thursday 3 May and Amanda Pearce gave a great talk.
Amanda’s talk was entitled: “Overcoming chemotherapy resistance with combination therapy”: Chemotherapy resistance describes the ability of cancer cells to grow and survive in the presence of anti-cancer therapies and is one of the most challenging problems faced in the clinic. Resistance of cancer cells to conventional drug treatments means that the chemotherapy will ultimately stop working, leading to tumour regrowth and rapid disease progression shortly after completion of treatment. This talk will discuss the different mechanisms by which cancer cells can develop resistance, and how combination therapies of multiple cytotoxics is one of the most promising strategies to overcome or delay resistance.

It was a fantastic opportunity to hear about Amanda’s interests and an excellent chance for the Programme Grant team to get together.
