On Saturday 16 June 2018 the Next Generation Biomaterials Programme Grant ran an outreach event as part of the University of Nottingham’s Family Discovery Day. The activity was called: “Plastics Vs Cells: Will the Super Bugs Win?” Children and parents entered into a battle of cells Vs plastics, trying to find the right material for the right cells. Medical devices, targeted drug delivery and regenerative medicine all needed the right plastic to be found. Visitors got the chance to find which plastic spots bacteria love and which ones they hate, as well as seeing cells’ responses to different surface topographies. There was a small prize when they found the right plastic!

There were 372 visitors in total at the Family Discovery Day, with 177 arriving in the morning and 195 in the afternoon. All the comments from the visitors on the day were really positive and the kids seemed to love the activities.
