For Black History Month, join us for a screening of Edgar Arceneaux's rarely-screened A Time to Break Silence. Drawing on seemingly disparate elements A Time to Break Silence views America’s current moment by reflecting on the triumphs, fears and tragedies of the late 1960s. The film tells the story of the evolution of technology and the use of the bible as weapon of both light and dark, connecting spirituality, technology, military and social change. The epic project, developed in collaboration with Detroit-based techno-pioneers Underground Resistance, draws on the seminal speech of Dr Martin Luther King Jr from which it takes its name. Featuring an introduction and Q&A with Patrick Henderson, C3R research associate and PhD student in the Department of American and Canadian Studies.
