Centre for Research in Race and Rights holds third in five-part debate series

July-GUSU

On July 9, C3R and the Department of American and Canadian Studies hosted speakers at a dialogue accompanying the international civil rights exhibition Get Up Stand Up. The third in a five-part discussion series funded by the British Academy Rising Star Engagement project on Race and Rights (2015-16), it featured activist and photographer Jagdish Patel from the Monitoring Group, curator and educator Janna Graham from the Nottingham Contemporary and Professor Lauri Johnson from Boston College, currently at the University of Nottingham on a Fulbright. The debate covered new ways of exploring racism and identity in museums, galleries, schools and the community, the possibilities of advancing race relations by means of education, art and awareness-raising, and the use of innovative formats to challenge discrimination. It featured speaker presentations, group conversations between the attendees and new ideas for the future. Take a look at our website for more on this series, including booking links for the dialogues in August/September.
