Biography

Before working at the vet school I worked as an animal technician in a busy breeding centre, I spent just over a year with the company within their guinea pig unit. Before this I attended Brooksby Melton College where I studied a National Diploma in Animal Management, I thoroughly enjoyed this two year course and obtained a good grade and a good knowledge of various different animal species ranging from small mammals to farm animals and exotics.

Expertise Summary

Since October 2015 I work as a level 3 research technician, within the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. Responsibilities include, day to day running of the school's research facilities, and providing technical expertise to different areas of research, both laboratory and animal based.

Prior to this I undertook an eighteen month secondment as a research technician, working within the Dairy Herd Health group. Cattle lameness is a particular interest and I have provided technical expertise on several dairy cattle lameness projects.

Prior to this role I worked as a teaching technician within the area of veterinary education. Within this role I was responsible for the areas of live animal and clinical laboratories. I was primarily involved in the support of animal handling and clinical skill based practical classes. Particular responsibilities include the provision of technical expertise in live animal practical classes involving a wide range of different species, including, farm animals, horses, dogs, cats, small mammals and exotics.
