Biography

Stuart Paine is Professor of Pharmacometrics at the Veterinary School and holds an Endowed Chair. He obtained his BSc and PhD from University College London followed by post-doctoral fellowships at the Universities of Toronto and Cambridge. He then joined the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Division at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals and spent 14 years discovering new drugs including the arterial anti-thrombotic drug known as Ticagrelor. As part of that research he developed new methodologies in the prediction of the effective therapeutic dose of new drugs prior to human clinical trials. Stuart Paine then joined the Veterinary School at Nottingham in 2011 and has academic interests in understanding in vitro to in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a therapeutic drug using novel models such as organ on a chip. He also has interests in the DMPK of drugs used in the horse and application to medication and doping control in horseracing and equestrian sports.
