Communicating effectively as a leader in the ever-changing world of contemporary businesses and organisations requires a versatile skills-set that needs to be creative, adaptable and frequently updated. This one-day workshop will provide SME business leaders in the East Midlands with access to the most advanced approaches to effective communication based on internationally-renowned linguistics research at the University of Nottingham.
Participants will be given the opportunity to reflect upon current communicative styles to assess the ways in which their interactional strategies with different stakeholders can be enhanced. It aims to open up brand new possibilities for effective leadership performance. The workshop will use cutting edge research techniques to combine a suite of materials from real-world business settings with practical activities. The processes of reflection and enhancement of leadership performance aims to create the presence and impact that leaders strive for within their workplace cultures.

This workshop marks the return of Dr. Louise Mullany, a popular speaker at the Ingenuity breakfast events. Louise is Director of Business Engagement and Associate Professor of Sociolinguistics in the Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics at the University of Nottingham. She has spent the last 15 years researching communication in businesses and organisations. She has published widely on this topic including books with international publishing houses, journal articles and book chapters in numerous edited collections. She has given invited talks and presentations on her research in a number of countries worldwide including New Zealand, Hong Kong, Canada, China, Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Spain and the UK. She is a member of the international Association for Business Communication and the British Association of Applied Linguistics. She has received funding for her professional communication research from organisations including the British Academy and the Economic and Social Sciences Research Council.
