Symposium 'Corpus Linguistics beyond Boundaries: Interdisciplinary Applications'

Date(s)
Friday 10th July 2015 (09:30-17:00)
Description

'Corpus Linguistics beyond Boundaries: Interdisciplinary Applications' (A one-day Symposium)

Call for Papers

Recent research in corpus linguistics is pushing the boundaries of the discipline towards more and more interdisciplinary applications. Although used originally by linguists alone, CL methods are now being embraced by researchers working in an ever-widening range of academic disciplines. Spurred on by growing recognition of the utility of such methods for providing unprecedented and unpredictable insights into how language is used in the real world, students and established scholars alike are now adopting CL approaches to answer questions in an array of subjects, including the social sciences, literary studies, education, psychology, translation studies, the health sciences, and many, many more.

This one-day symposium accords with this burgeoning enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and aims to showcase innovative applications of corpus linguistics beyond its traditional boundaries. Papers are invited for this symposium. We are particularly looking for contributions that (i) embrace interdisciplinarity and (ii) illustrate such interactions through specific analysis.

The plenary speaker will be Professor Paul Baker from Lancaster University.

We welcome abstracts of up to 300 words for 20 minutes presentations, sent to the CRAL email address by 10 May. Please submit your abstract as a Word attachment and include also 5 keywords, your name, affiliation, academic title, email address, and a short biography. Postgraduate and early-career researchers are especially encouraged to participate. Those who would like to attend the symposium without presenting a paper are very welcome to do so and should confirm their attendance by email. For more information please visit the symposium website.

The Corpus Linguistics beyond Boundaries symposium will follow the Summer School 'Corpus Linguistics: Tools and Applications' (7-9 July, 2015). Attendees are encouraged but not obliged to attend both events.
