BAAL Vocabulary SIG Annual Conference 2016

Studying vocabulary: A multidisciplinary approach - Call for Papers

Hosted by the School of English and the Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics (CRAL) at the University of Nottingham.

Confirmed Plenary Speakers:

  • Professor Paul Meara, Swansea University
  • Professor Norbert Schmitt, University of Nottingham

A wide range of approaches are now currently followed in vocabulary studies. The aim of this conference is to bring together vocabulary researchers from a variety of backgrounds who are interested in the study of vocabulary from different perspectives. The conference will be an excellent opportunity to foster fruitful discussions about the present and future of vocabulary studies.

We invite abstracts for paper and poster presentations on any topic related to the teaching, learning, processing, and assessment of vocabulary (e.g. corpus linguistic approaches to the study of vocabulary; classroom-based research on the learning and teaching of vocabulary; formulaic language; psycholinguistic studies on the processing of vocabulary; vocabulary assessment, etc.). We particularly welcome abstracts based on empirical data.

We welcome proposals for:

  1. Paper presentations (20 minutes + 10 minutes for questions)
  2. Poster proposals.

A title and a 300-word abstract should be submitted to vocabulary.sig.2016@nottingham.ac.uk by the 15th of April 2016. Please specify if your submission is for a poster or paper presentation and do not add tables or diagrams in the abstract submission.

Important dates:

  • Deadline for receipt of abstracts: 15th April 2016
  • Results communicated: 15th May 2016
  • Registration starts: 20th May 2016
