Work carried out by Tunji Owoseni and other members of the CME team has been recently published on Surface and Coatings Technology. Titled "Suspension High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (SHVOF) Spray of Delta-Theta Alumina Suspension: Phase Transformation and Tribology", the article investigates suspension high-velocity oxy-fuel (SHVOF) thermal spray deposition of a metastable δ-θ Al2O3 nanometric feedstock. The feasibility of producing quality Al2O3 coatings was demonstrated with a rather low cost and commercially available metastable δ-θ Al2O3. The coating was sprayed on to a stainless steel (SS 304) substrate and exposed to post-spray heat treatment at varying temperature and time durations. The samples were then studied for unlubricated sliding wear performance at room temperature. You may read the full article clicking here.
