Interpreting Series 2015

Dr. Óscar Jiménez Serrano

Senior Lecturer, Department of Translation and Interpreting, University of Granada, Spain

Interpreter for H. M. King Felipe of Spain’s Prince of Asturias Foundation

Óscar Jiménez Serrano has worked as a conference interpreter around the world for 25 years. He has interpreted for the United Nations, European Union, Olympic Committee, or Interpol; and for some of the most influential people worldwide: monarchs, prime ministers, Nobel laureates from various fields, CEOs of the biggest tech companies (Google, Twitter), Fortune’s top billionaires, renowned artists and sport celebrities. In this talk, he will draw on this experience to discuss relevant aspects of the profession such as the various settings involved or the main challenges posed, with a special emphasis on the interpreter’s visibility, performance and exposure.
