Poetry Publications - Dr Matthew Welton

Dr Matthew Welton of the School of English's Creative Writing department is pleased to announce that several of his poems have recently been published in numerous high profile publications.

Two new poems, which will feature in Squid Squad: A Novel, which is coming out from Carcanet next year, have been published in the Times Literary Supplement. In these poems, Matthew seeks to blur the line between fiction and poetry. The characters in Squid Squad are influenced by Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts gang.

A translation of Matthew's poem ‘The fundament of wonderment’ has been included in a major anthology of younger European poets called A Grand Tour, edited by Federico Italiano and Jan Wagner. Matthew states that at a time when we (Britain) are becoming politically dislocated from Europe, he's proud to have work featured in a book that shows the common currents of European political thought.

Finally, in late 2018, Matthew's poem ‘Virtual Airport’ was collected in The Penguin Book of the Prose Poem, edited by Jeremy Noel-Tod. Written as part of a collaborative project with a painter, and not as a poem at all, Matthew is pleased to see it included in a Penguin anthology.
