The project extended Nottingham City Council's Future of the High Street Fund (FHSF) programme by exploring the different ways that immersive technology can be used. In particular, it focussed on the impact of covid-19, and the way existing digital archives, such as those held by Nottingham Theatre Royal, can be incorporated into FHSF activities. Research Affiliate, Rachel Saunders, produced a number of outputs which will feed into Nottingham City Council's Future of the High Street Fund (FHSF) programme over the next three years, including a Culture & Technology Review, Ideation Paper and Strategic Vision Statement. One of the key outcomes of the project was the need for any immersive storytelling to be as inclusive as possible, and not only in terms of audience. Nottingham has a rich tapestry of communities and it is important that as many of these as possible are included in the actual making of the stories themselves. This idea of a programme of immersive stories that are co-designed by members of the public, alongside heritage organisations, tech companies and third sector bodies, is genuinely exciting. It offers to take immersive storytelling in a completely new direction while at the same time bolstering a shared vision for the centre of Nottingham.
