On Wednesday 9th November, 6.30-8pm, the official launch of Words for Walls took place at THiNK, a creative space and cafe in Nottingham's quirky Combden Chambers. The launch was part of Nottingham Festival of Literature (8th - 13th November 2016), an annual event that celebrates the diversity of Nottingham's literature scene.
Local poets, academics, and members of the public came together for a celebratory evening that featured poetry readings and short talks by researchers from the University of Nottingham.
The project was very pleased to have Sandy Mahal, director of UNESCO Nottingham City of Literature, as the opening speaker for the event.
The evening ended with a chance to see the first print run of poetry posters going on display around Nottingham from November 2016. A huge thanks to Charlotte Anscombe (University of Nottingham) for designing this wonderful set of posters.
We were really pleased to be able to bring together such a diverse and lively group of poets to launch the project and demonstrate both the range and quality of poetry on offer in Nottingham. Presentations from Annalise Grice and Charlotte May were a great way of linking contemporary poetry in Nottingham to the city's poetic heritage, and the research which is being conducted at the University of Nottingham. - Nicola Thomas, project co-founder
