Early Life Research

Dr Caroline Henry and Dr Don Sharkey awarded funding for worldwide launch of a newborn resuscitation App.

Dr Caroline Henry, a Neonatal Clinical Research Fellow in Academic Child Health, and Dr Don Sharkey, her supervisor and Associate Professor of Neonatal Medicine, have been awarded €32,000 from the Chiesi Foundation to develop their clinical App for worldwide distribution.  They have successfully studied the App in a variety of clinical studies and demonstrated it can aid newborn resuscitation by reducing the number of errors healthcare professionals make during assessment of the baby.  They aim to develop the App for use particularly in the developing world where it could have the greatest impact.  This builds on the success Dr Henry had last year presenting the data at Europe’s largest newborn resuscitation conference in Germany where she won best oral presentation.
