Research Summary

RT-PCR detection and characterisation of human and animal viral pathogens, alongside construction of viral molecular clones and chimeras.

My teaching is laboratory focused, running practical classes for 5 to 65 students across many undergraduate and postgraduate courses. These currently include BMedsci, MSc Molecular Medical Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology, Microbiology & Immunology and the BBSRC Doctoral Training Programme.

The molecular biology sessions I have designed range from an introduction to basic molecular techniques such as micro-pipetting through to advanced methods such as Realtime PCR and Western Blotting - sometimes in the space of a few hours!
