Biography

Dr. Wasi Ahmadi is a research fellow in experimental dynamics at the Engineering faculty of university of Nottingham. Wasi did his PhD in structural dynamics at the university of Bristol in the UK (2020-2024). He obtained his Masters in structural engineering from university of Exeter in the UK in 2017. Wasi has also worked in the engineering industry as a structural engineer. His research interest lies in the theoretical and experimental structural dynamics and vibration of civil, mechanical and aerospace structures.

Current Research

Wasi is currently working on experimental vibration suppression of engineering structures. Excessive vibrations cause many engineering systems to malfunction. Providing optimum levels of damping in engineering structures to reduce excessive vibration, whilst maintaining good performance of engineering systems is a key topic in dynamics and vibration research community. Wasi is testing damping devices experimentally to investigate and improve their performance in reducing vibration levels to the desired levels. In addition to experimental investigation he is also looking into mathematical modeling of damping devices in the engineering systems.

Past Research

Wasi has worked on vibration control of civil structures such floors using active vibration control devices. Pedestrians often induce excessive vibrations in floors of buildings. Active vibration control systems are smart dampers which apply control forces proportional to the amount of vibration. Hence, they can provide optimum levels of damping in engineering systems.

Wasi has also researched into dynamic nonlinear behavior of structures. Many engineering structures can exhibit nonlinearity when they undergo large deformations. Wasi has looked into gathering vibration test data from structures and identified their dynamic behavior using small-sized mathematical models. These mathematical models can then be used to update the nonlinear finite element models of engineering structures.
