I will present early results from an ongoing project with the BBC exploring new forms of hybrid gifts that flexibly combine physical products with digital media in ways that enhance the experience and hence value of both. These might be established digital formats such as streamed music or video that get ‘wrapped’ in consumable physical materials or traditional physical products such as ceramics that get wrapped in digital ephemera such as personal messages. Plans for a new project proposal to explore the gifted hybrid artefact as a new format for storytelling will also be discussed.
