This introduction will cover my background and interests in using ethnographic methods to contribute to systems design. I will briefly discuss the research I undertook for my PhD, which explored social interaction in dental training as part of a project developing new digital simulators. The final part of the presentation will be about my current work with colleagues in the Mixed Reality Laboratory on the Autonomous Internet of Things project.
