Jocelyn will talk about hybrid gifting in this week's digital lab meeting.
This talk will give an overview of what we have been up to in some of our main gifting research projects over the past couple of years and the directions we’re taking moving forward. It will cover the parts of the GIFT project (2018-2020) that I have been directly involved with. For the most part, these have been weighted heavily towards the digital, though grounded to some degree in user relationships with particular museum objects. We then experimented with digital gifts that were created through physical engagement with 3D-printed museum objects. Now, with the new Hybrid Gifting project, we are starting to envision new types of physical gifts interwoven with digital elements or layers. The talk will end with a (painless!) recap of a theory that helps clarify what a gift is when it’s not a traditional physical thing in a pretty box with a bow on top.
