Paul will present during the lab meeting this week.
Following the ongoing thread of discussing collaborative virtual environments (CVEs) this talk will discuss ‘dimensions’ a CVE concept that imagines how we might visit an online location together in small groups within a larger population. Enabling group social interaction seems like a desirable goal for CVEs but its necessary to consider the technical and organisational load associated with many people interacting with an environment together. How to we synchronously engage with the resources of the environment? How do we create a sense of togetherness? Of being part of a crowd? This work is inspired by considering the needs of visitors to digital festivals but may be applicable in various ‘small location’ virtual environments such as museums or conferences. The system is already being developed in the lab, and I’m keen to discuss some of the ideas behind it.
