The Sue Ryder Care Centre for the Study of Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care will be hosting a Research Group Seminar on Thursday 16 July 2015:
Fertile Soil: “Returning to Nature” through natural burial – A film screening, talk and Q&A.
Dr Hannah Rumble - University of Exeter
Dr Hannah Rumble will introduce her ethnographic research into the British Natural Burial movement, followed by a screening of a 30 minute documentary film she made in collaboration with a visual anthropologist exploring the provision of a consecrated, Church of England affiliated natural burial site just West of Cambridge. The film documents the attitudes and behaviours of those who visit the natural burial ground, those who oversee its provision, as well as those funeral professionals who use the site as part of their services. This talk will appeal to anyone who is interested in natural burial and learning more about the appeal of this recent innovation in burial provision.
Dr Rumble is a Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Exeter and sits on the Editorial Board of Mortality Journal and the General Council of the Association for the Study of Death and Society (ASDS).
