Aspects of the Political Economy of Security

Guest speaker: Professor Antony Anghie

NILSC is delighted to be welcoming Professor Antony Anghie to give a seminar on the legal significance of the term 'security' in many treaties, which have wide-ranging policy and social consequences. What is the relationship between political economy and security? This lecture will explore this broad topic through the work of scholars from the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) and their insights into the history, theory and operation of international law in order to explore how the concept of security was developed and elaborated through the colonial encounter and its aftermath. It will focus on the work of scholars such as Vitoria and Grotius, and their enduring contributions to debates about political economy and security.

For Professor Anghie's biography, please see here https://www.clarehall.cam.ac.uk/directory/antony-anghie/

This seminar will be chaired by NILSC deputy director, Dr Victor Kattan.

All are welcome to attend.
