MMedSci graduate tops ESHRE exams for clinical embryologists

Congratulations to Dr Pranay Ghosh, a graduate of the MMedSci Assisted Reproduction Technology course, for topping the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) exams in July this year. He was the only candidate to score more than 90% in the exams for clinical embryologists in Helsinki, Finland, this year.

The ESHRE certification for embryologists aims to certify competence of clinical embryologists working in IVF all over the globe and is meant to develop a formal recognition for embryologists. The distribution of scores can be seen on the ESHRE website

Dr Ghosh graduated with Distinction at the top of his class in 2012. As part of the MMedSci course he had completed a research project entitled "The Effects of 2-Cell Embryo Biopsy or Twinning on Embryo Quality and Development to Blastocyst" under the supervision of Dr Walid Maalouf. He then went on to establish his own IVF clinic in New Delhi, India, called Elixir Fertility Centre, where he had gained enough experience to be allowed to sit this year’s ESHRE exams.

Graduates from the MMedSci Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) course at The University of Nottingham, the longest established embryology masters programme in the UK, are sought after by employers as they usually graduate with thorough theoretical and practical knowledge in ART that provides them with an excellent foundation to start a career in clinical embryology.
