Alan Perkins, Professor of Medical Physics in Radiological Sciences and a Honorary Consultant Clinical Scientist at NUH NHS Trust has recently taken the position of Chair of the Research Strategy Board of Coeliac UK. He is a member of Coeliac UK, having been diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2010 after a brief period of acute anaemia. He brings not only a personal insight into the condition, but expertise in gastrointestinal research including GI motility and oral drug delivery. He is past President of the British Nuclear Medicine Society, so is familiar with the workings of medical charities.
Coeliac UK is one the largest coeliac charities in Europe and is working to significantly increase research funding into coeliac disease.
