Description

REPRESENT invites you to kick off the year with an in-person research panel and discussion on the use of gender quotas for promoting women's equal representation and democratic quality in three global contexts.

Our panel of colleagues will explore gender quota adoption, implementation, and enforcement within the context of three diverse contexts. What stands out from each case? Is there a global truth to the effectiveness of gender quotas? What challenges remain for gender equality, even where successful quotas exist? Join us to learn more!

Panellists will provide a brief introduction to their areas of expertise, followed by a moderated and open Q&A discussion. We’ll also discuss upcoming events during the 2023-24 academic year.

Panellists

  • Dr Laura Martin – A new gender quota for the 2023 Sierra Leonian elections
  • Dr Carole Spary – Gender equality in the Indian federal context
  • Dr Will Daniel – Are quotas becoming a European standard?

A catered buffet lunch will be provided to all registrants. Registration is free and open to academic staff, postgraduate researchers and taught students, as well as undergraduates in year three.
