Stem Cell Biology

MSc Stem Cell Technology students and NUAST pupils in first Nottingham Science and Biotechnology Showcase

Students on the MSc in Stem Cell Technology (Division of Cancer & Stem Cells) and A-level Biology students from Nottingham University Academy of Science and Technology (NUAST) got together on 2 March 2017 in the first Nottingham Science & Biotechnology Showcase outreach event.

NUAST students were taken on a tour of our research facilities in the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences as part of the event. We then hosted a presentation on stem cell donation from the Nottingham Marrow association, followed by business plan presentations from our MSc students, who were presenting novel technologies designed to translate recent discoveries into potential biotech products. The audience then got to question the presenters, before casting their vote as to which of the technologies presented would receive their financial backing.

The day ended with a poster session organised by NUAST students, who presented recent findings from biology experiments carried out in lab sessions. This time our MSc students got to question the presenters and vote for the best poster presentation which was rewarded with a 3D-printed trophy.

We look forward to renewing exchanges with NUAST to showcase Nottingham’s innovation.
