Taiwan Research Hub PhD Scholarship (2024/25)

The Taiwan Research Hub, in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham, is pleased to offer a PhD scholarship to applicants wishing to study in the school beginning in the 2024/25 academic year. The scholarship will be offered on a competitive basis, with applications being ranked by a panel in the school. The panel’s judgement will be final.  

The proposed research can be either in the field of comparative politics, or of an interdisciplinary nature. However, the research must be related to Taiwan, and the first supervisor must be from the School of Politics and International Relations.

Description of award: £10,000 per annum for three years (full-time) 

Eligibility and value of the award: 

To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship applicants:

• Meet the entry requirements outlined on the Politics and International Relations PhD webpage.
• Be able to commence their studies full-time in the UK in the 2024/25 academic year.  Home/EU and International students are eligible to apply, but please note that the total value of the award is £10,000 per academic year regardless of the residency of the successful applicant. • Application:  Please email your application, with the subject 'TRH PhD Scholarship Application', to Mandy Felton (mandy.felton@nottingham.ac.uk). Please ensure that it contains the following:  
  • Your name 
  • The degree programme to which you will apply. 
  • The title of the proposed doctoral research project 
  • A research proposal of up to 2,000 words (excluding references). The proposal MUST contain a brief overview of your intended research, including references to key literature and an account of what is novel about your project, as well as the methods you plan to use. 
  • A statement from a member of your proposed supervisory team (one of whom must be a member of staff from the School of Politics and International Relations and be your first supervisor) of up to 250 words. This should explain how their expertise is suited to your project. Information on academics at University of Nottingham, whose work relates to Taiwan, can be found here. The deadline for applications is 5pm on 27 March 2024. 

Following the deadline, shortlisted candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview, either in person or online. The successful applicant will be notified by 2 May 2024. Any award will be subject to the awardee meeting the school’s entry requirements. The awardee will be invited to apply to their PhD programme after the award has been confirmed. Applications to the School's PhD programmes are made via the university's online application system.
