Our research team
Led by Dr Tania Dottorini and Professor Richard Emes, our data analysis, machine learning and bioinformatics research team also includes data analysts Dr Tom Giles, Dr Jo Moreton, Mr Andrew Warry and Dr Michael Wilson. They’re supported by our postgraduate students Abril Izquierdo (PhD), Necati Esener (PhD) and Colman O’ Cathail (PhD).
Together, they have extensive experience in genome annotation, metagenomics and interactomics, phylogenetic and comparative genome analyses, structural biology (including protein-protein and protein-ligand docking analysis), supervised and unsupervised machine learning, predictive modelling, data mining involving large-data, analysis of functional genomics, comparative genomics, structural genomics, immunoproteomics and transcriptomics, RNA-sequencing and microarrays.
Professor Richard Emes’ research focuses on integrating genetic and genomic data and developing methodologies to analyse it. Dr Tania Dottorinis’ research focuses on developing original methods and algorithms to gain deeper insights into biological problems related to health and welfare. She’s also developing diagnostic tools that merge different disciplines, including machine learning and bioinformatics.
Data analysts Dr Tom Giles, Dr Jo Moreton, Andrew Warry and Dr Michael Wilson specialise in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data and the visual integration of biological data.
