Biography

Karen graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Geology from the University of Manchester in 1991. She then completed a Ph.D. researching the sedimentology and palaeontology of the Carboniferous Period at the University of Leeds in 1995, also spending a year at the University of California at Berkeley. She then joined British Gas Research as a research geologist, working predominantly on gas fields in the UK and Tunisia as well as developing more generic geological techniques and methods. She then moved into a number of roles in strategy, business plannning, mergers and acquisitions and finance before eventually becoming Director of Strategy, Innovation and Development. She completed an MBA at the University of Nottingham in 2005. She joined the Vet School in 2005, where her role was to project manage the establishment of the School. Karen is now Director of Academic Support and Administration and is also Sub-Dean for Admissions.

Expertise Summary

Karen is responsible for developing and administering a variety of functions in the School, and manages the Academic Support Division which covers operational support areas such as finance, student placement, research support, teaching, learning and assessment and admissions. She also teaches on the Research Methods and Personal and Professional Skills modules (particularly around Business and entrepreneurship).
